OUR COMPANY

"Building for the future through innovation, green design and superior customer service"

our values

  • Passion for innovation
  • Respect for the environment
  • Honesty, Integrity, Accountability

Recognizing the need for something "different" in the new home market, founders Ben Lount and Greg Porth established Houseplant Inc.

With the philosophy of using less material, less energy and less fuel, Ben and Greg created a company specializing in modern design using green building methods and materials.

Your Houseplant compliments the way you live and your commitment to the environment.

As an affiliate of Lount Corporation, Houseplant will continue the long-standing tradition of quality and innovation that defined the Lount family of builders.

lount corporation

The predecessor of Lount Corporation, C.T. Lount Construction Co. Ltd., was building homes in Winnipeg during the late 40's. The principals were Charles Lount, a civil engineer, and his son Graham, a graduate architect. The Lount's developed over 20,000 residential units in North America over the last 60 years.

Innovation was the hallmark of Lount Construction. As early as 1950, CTLC was building homes heated with radiant floors, a practice 50 years ahead of its time. CTLC was utilizing geothermal systems in the 60's. In the late 1960's, now building apartment blocks, CTLC utilized the Lift Slab system. The two 17 storey apartments, Kiltarton Towers built in 1968, exercised the maximum height possible for the lift slab system. Built underground during the winter and lifted into place in the spring, the construction process of Kiltarton Towers was a marvel to watch.

In the 70's, after building the 38 storey apartment, 55 Nassau, CTLC became Lount Corporation.

The many innovative techniques employed set Lount buildings apart from all others. To this day, when a Lount home is on the market, it is most often identified by the owner's realtor as a "Lount built home". That says it all.

Today, the Lounts are building homes once again. Houseplant Inc., directed by Ben Lount and Greg Porth are embracing the same innovative initiatives that defined C.T.Lount Construction.
